In less than a month, the time will have come: the 32nd International Schmelz Youth Tournament will welcome young handball players from seven nations on Thursday, August 21st, the day of arrival. A total of 45 girls’ and boys’ teams in three age categories each will then compete for victory at Austria’s largest youth handball tournament from Friday, August 22nd to Sunday, August 24th. The trophies for the finalists in the Wiener Stadthalle B (for boys and girls born in 2013, the finals are already on Saturday evening) are ready.
WAT Fünfhaus and the heads of organization, Christoph Zeiml, Mario Sauschlager, and Michael Hicker, are already looking forward to the registered teams from seven countries: the Czech Republic, Romania, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Austria, and for the first time in seven years, Ukraine with the boys’ team from Vyshhorod near Kyiv. In addition to numerous strong teams from Austria, the Czech Republic is strongly represented at this year’s 32nd edition of the tournament with eight girls’ and boys’ teams.
The trophies are proof of how far the months-long preparations of the motivated organizing team for the Schmelz Youth Tournament have already progressed. Special thanks for their support this year also go to the GRG 23 with Director Markus Michelitsch and head school caretaker Martin Svoboda. More than a dozen teams, especially from abroad, will be accommodated there in the school building in Alterlaa. However, the 32nd Schmelz Youth Tournament would not be possible without the approximately 80 volunteers who help with everything from the scorer’s tables to the buffet. Volunteers are still welcome to register.
