48 teams are participating this year

SG Weiz/Gleisdorf from Styria is the final club to register for the 33rd International Schmelz Youth Tournament, held from August 28 to 30. They have entered two girls’ teams. With the registration deadline now closed, it is confirmed that a total of 48 teams will participate in Austria’s largest youth handball tournament. This figure includes two special handball teams for players with disabilities, who will also play on the final day, Sunday, August 30, at the Wiener Stadthalle B. In total, 25 boys’ teams and 21 girls’ teams have registered across the three age categories of 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Participants of the Schmelz tournament, which has been organized by WAT Fünfhaus since its inception in 1993, come from six nations this year: Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Lithuania, and Austria. The most competitive fields are in the girls’ 2014 and younger category, as well as the boys’ 2012 and younger category, with nine participating teams each.

Group phase begins on Friday, August 28, at 8:30 a.m. Saturday will continue with group phase and knockout duels to determine who advances to the final games and final rankings. For the youngest age groups, 2014 and younger, the finals will take place late Saturday afternoon. The remaining four final matches for boys and girls in the 2012 and 2010 age categories will be held on Sunday, August 30, starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Wiener Stadthalle B, alongside the special handball match.

Free admission for spectators for all games

WAT Fünfhaus warmly invites all handball enthusiasts to come and watch the games on the outdoor courts at the University Sports Center on the Schmelz. Admission is free for all matches, including the finals on Sunday at the Wiener Stadthalle. There will be plenty of drinks, snacks, and food available for all spectators. The boys’ and girls’ teams born in 2010 will play their matches on Friday and Saturday at the Tellgasse 3 sports hall in 1150 Vienna, with their finals taking place on Sunday nearby at the Wiener Stadthalle B.
