In the youngest age category, victory goes to Kobylisy from Prague and Fivers from Vienna

The second day of the 33rd International Schmelz Tournament hosted by WAT Fünfhaus concluded on Saturday, August 29, with the first two final matches in the youngest age category, the 2014 birth year, for both girls and boys. In the girls’ division, the team from TJ Sokol Kobylisy II proved to be in a class of their own late in the afternoon, decisively defeating Madx WAT Atzgersdorf 18:6. The boys’ 2014 final turned into a Vienna derby, where HC Fivers WAT Margareten maintained the upper hand against West Wien Handball 2 with a 23:12 victory.

Following the oppressively humid first day of the tournament on Friday, the more moderate temperatures were welcomed by the young talents at Austria’s largest youth handball tournament. A few raindrops during Saturday morning did not spoil the fun. While the finalists in the 2014 age groups for both girls and boys received their trophies late in the afternoon in recognition of their efforts, things will get truly exciting on Sunday for the 2012 and 2010 age categories. Their four final matches will be held on Sunday, August 30, starting at 9:00 AM in the Wiener Stadthalle B.

In the 2012 girls’ division, the Schwarzbach Berries from near Frankfurt, Germany, will face the strong competitors from Madx WAT Atzgersdorf, who will be playing their second final of this year’s Schmelz tournament starting at 9:00 AM on Sunday. For Croatia, the boys of MRK Metalac are flying the flag in the 2012 category after some impressive performances in the preliminary round. A tough challenge awaits them in the final on Sunday at 10:00 AM in the form of Union Handball Wienerwald from Lower Austria.

Following the Handball Specials match, which brings together people with disabilities, against a team from the organizers WAT Fünfhaus at 11:15 AM, the schedule for the 2010 girls’ youth category features a Czech-Slovak final at 12:00 PM. Hazena Kynzvart from the Czech Republic will take on SMF-HK Zilina from Slovakia.

The event concludes in the Wiener Stadthalle B with the 2010 boys’ final. The match between TVB Stuttgart from Germany and MRK Metalac promises to be a highly explosive encounter starting at 1:00 PM.

Admission is free, even on the final day of the Schmelz tournament. It is a fantastic opportunity for all handball fans to watch the finals live in person at the Wiener Stadthalle B.
