Whoever makes it into one of the six final matches of the 33rd International Schmelz Tournament in less than two weeks will receive an award after the final, regardless of whether they win or lose. The trophies for the finalists in the girls and boys categories for the 2014, 2012, and 2010 age groups are already prepared. Now, the teams just need to get through the preliminary round and secure their spot in the finals.
The final matches for the youngest age group, born in 2014, will take place at the University Sports Center at Auf der Schmelz in Vienna’s 15th district late Saturday afternoon, August 29. These are the athletic highlights of the second day of this year’s International Schmelz Tournament. On Sunday, August 30, the four final matches in the two remaining age categories for both girls and boys will follow, starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Wiener Stadthalle B.
All 55 participating girls’ and boys’ teams from 6 different nations can still hope to win one of the trophies. The action kicks off on Friday, August 28, at 9:00 a.m.
In addition, a special fairness trophy will be awarded this year. Last year, this prize was presented to the referee team, as no tournament would be possible without them (see the photo below, photo credit: WAT Fünfhaus).
