Teams from Germany, Lithuania, and right here in Vienna – including the latest addition, Handball West Wien – have helped push the 33rd International Schmelz Youth Handball Tournament to even higher numbers this year. We’ve officially cracked the 40-team mark for the event, which runs from August 28th to 30th in Vienna. But you’ll need to act fast: the deadline for online registration for the tournament, hosted by WAT Fünfhaus, is this Friday, June 26th. The organizers and players would be especially happy to see more girls’ teams in the 2010 age category sign up.

Both the girls’ and boys’ 2010 teams will play their matches indoors at the Tellgasse sports hall in Vienna’s 15th district. Of course, as the organizers of Austria’s biggest youth handball tournament, WAT Fünfhaus is thrilled to welcome teams in all three age categories – 2014, 2012, and 2010 – for both girls and boys.
Interest in this year’s International Schmelz tournament is huge in Germany, even though school holidays in some states, like Bavaria, make it a bit tricky for some to join. We’ve got a new arrival on the boys’ side: TVB Stuttgart is bringing a 2010 team. HSG Schwarzbach from Hesse has also registered a third team, bringing the total number of teams from Germany confirmed for late August in Vienna to six.
We’re also seeing some familiar faces from Lithuania. Utena DSC has once again registered a boys’ 2010 team. And on the final day, Sunday, August 30th, we’re hosting a special match at the Wiener Stadthalle B between two “Handball Specials” teams – a highlight that’s become a real tradition at the Schmelz tournament.
If you still want to get in on the action, don’t wait – online registration is open until June 26th!
